Group of experts meeting on protecting Hanoi’s colonial villas (March 25, 2011)
University of Civil Engineering, Institute of Architecture
and Urban Planning
IMV’s director is a member of the group of experts
commissioned by the Hanoi People’s Committee to draw up a list of buildings to
be classified and to put together a set of regulations to govern management of
this heritage.
The director of the Institute of Urban Planning
and Architecture presented the initial results of the exhaustive inventory of
French residential buildings in Hanoi’s four urban districts. Over 1,400 buildings
have been identified, including 600 of exceptional architectural value. The
experts validated the methodology used for the survey and the results round out
those obtained through IMV’s own study. A strong appeal was made to have
temporary measures enacted to prohibit any modification or destruction of the
buildings while waiting for the heritage protection regulations to come into
effect.
