Opening of exhibition on the study on preservation of Hanoi’s Old French Quarter and release of a book on the French architectural heritage "Hanoi: Rêves d'Occident en Extrême-Orient" (02/11/2010)

The opening ceremony of the exhibition

The exhibition was opened on November 2 in the presence of Hanoi People’s Committee Deputy Chairman Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi, France’s Ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Jean-François Girault, and Thierry Huau, director of the city planning-landscape design agency Interscène.

The exhibition highlighted the study funded by the IDF Region. It was steered by IMV and the Hanoi Department of Urban Planning and Architecture and produced by Interscène.

A master plan of the neighbourhood and a draft set of regulations were developed in order to come up with a building code (heights, setbacks, green spaces, etc.) appropriate to the socio-economic functions and environment of the Old French Quarter.

The purpose of the exhibition was to raise awareness and get public feedback prior to further discussions by the Hanoi People’s Committee regarding implementation of the building code to preserve and showcase this district of the capital.

On this occasion, a book on the French architectural heritage, Hanoi: Rêves d'Occident en Extrême-Orient, was released.

The book was produced by the Île-de-France Region’s General Survey and Cultural Heritage Department and IMV. It was published in France and in Vietnam (in Vietnamese) in October 2010.
