In 2006, the Île-de-France Regional Tourism Board and the Hanoi Tourism Department launched a program to provide the Vietnamese authorities with technical support to reinforce tourism development and cultural heritage protection in the capital and its immediate environs. This cooperation arrangement has two phases. The first is devoted to the drafting and preparation of the application to have the Thang Long Citadel site included on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for 2010 (overall management and tourism plan). The second is focusing on studies and research to showcase the heritage. Plans also call for a master plan for the protection of heritage and promotion of heritage tourism in the capital. IMV is providing field coordination for these initiatives and will provide expertise in the fields of transportation and urban planning.
