The signing of the memorandum by two Presidents |
During celebrations marking Hanoi’s 1,000
th anniversary and 20 years of cooperation between Île-de-France Region and the Hanoi People’s Committee, Regional Council Chairman Jean-Paul Huchon led to Hanoi a delegation including officials representing the different constituents of the Regional Assembly. The group was in Hanoi from October 31 to November 3, 2010.
On November 1, the delegation was hosted by Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Mr. Nguyen The Thao for a meeting of the joint commission made up of officials from the two communities. The gathering concluded with the signing of a memorandum outlining the directions to be taken in decentralized cooperation and the commitments of the two partners for the 2011-2015 period.
The commitments undertaken will lead to a strengthening of cooperation in the fields of urban planning, public transport (enhancement of the bus network and support for integration of the French subway line between Nhon and the Hanoi railway station), environmental protection (clean-up and drainage projects in the suburban district of Gia Lam), urban heritage protection and tourism. New actions for corporate involvement in the two communities were also committed to, as well as skills development initiatives, particularly in the fashion and textile industries.
The delegation visited sites on which the Île-de-France Region has been providing technical assistance and co-funding, including the Thang Long Citadel, public transport projects (Long Bien and Cau Giay bus interchanges) and a number of environmental projects in Gia Lam.
