When analyzing things in preparation for the Hanoi region master plan, it became obvious that recent satellite images were needed (late 2003-2004) covering a broad expanse of the Red River delta, which would make up for the lack of reliable, up-to-date data on land use status (urban sprawl, highway network, wooded spaces, agricultural land, etc.).
With these color images produced at a resolution of 10 meters, Hanoi and Ministry of Construction urban planners are henceforth equipped to set up a GIS to be used when major decisions have to be made involving infrastructure and urban development.
